The country music star Blake Shelton and singer Gwen Stefani finally got engaged back in October five years after they met while both serving as coaches on the NBC reality television show “The Voice.” In a special celebrating the ten year anniversary of the premiere of “The Voice,” Shelton took a look back at his love story with Stefani.

While being interviewed on “Road to Lives: 10th Anniversary” special episode, Shelton admitted that his life has been changed forever by “The Voice.”

“People ask me all the time, ‘What’s the greatest thing that’s happened to you since you’ve been on ‘The Voice?’ That’s a no brainer, right?” Shelton said with a laugh. “I met my fiancée here.”

Shelton and Stefani met when she signed on as a coach for season 7 back in 2014. At the time, both Shelton and Stefani were in the middle of divorces from Miranda Lambert and Gavin Rossdale, respectively.

By the time Stefani returned for season 9 the next year, they had become a couple.

“If you had told me back in 1996 that Gwen Stefani was gonna be my girlfriend, I would have laughed you out of the room. I would have thought you were crazy,” Blake jokes on last night’s show. “Saying it right now, I almost bust out laughing, that’s how ridiculous it is.”

Shelton went on to admit that he was impressed by Stefani from the very beginning, but not for the reason you may be expecting.

“Here’s this iconic rock star coming to be a coach on ‘The Voice’ in a black minivan. That was cool to me,” he recalled.

“I love it when she’s here,” Shelton added of going up against Stefani as a fellow “The Voice” coach. “She brings a very complicated element of competition for me in particular. But I love that. I love the challenge… Just knowing that she’s there and she has my back is pretty cool.”

Shelton and Stefani may be an A-list couple, but they are planning to keep their wedding low-key.

“We’re keeping it very simple. Really simple,” Stefani said last month, according to Entertainment Tonight. “I think the guest list will not have a lot of musicians. It’ll be like my mom and my dad. It’s literally going to be just family. We are looking forward to that, though.”

“It’s going to be fun,” she continued. “We’re going to make it really fun, but it’s not going to be a big [event]. It’s not like the queen and king are getting married or something like that.”
