The former “Fuller House” star Candace Cameron Bure is firing back at her haters after she was called out for following a “broad range of people” on Instagram.
“I read several comments from people, and I think there’s quite a bit of new followers, so thank you if you’re still around for following me here,” said Bure, adding that “it’s always strange to me because I follow a very broad range of people — politically, within my work industry and then personal friends and things I like.”
Though Bure did not specify who exactly she was getting backlash for following, she follows a politically diverse group of figures, including President Joe Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris, Barack Obama, Donald and Melania Trump, and more, according to People Magazine. However, Bure wants to make sure her fans know that a follow on social media is not an endorsement.
“A follow does not mean an endorsement,” she explained. “A follow does no t mean I agree with everything they say and do. It just means I follow a broad range of people so that I have perspective. I want to know what’s going on in the world, I want to hear different sides of the argument. I follow people in entertainment that I don’t necessarily agree with or act the same way, but I want to hear what our society, what culture is dishing out.”
Bure then said that she is dedicated to being open to all different political beliefs.
“I follow left and right, but it doesn’t make my blood boil,” she said. “I don’t get angry at it. So maybe it’s healthy for some of you not to follow people you disagree with. But it doesn’t upset me — it just gives me perspective.”
Bure added that she does not want to be a political person, and instead wants to “share Jesus with people. That’s really my passion.”
“I don’t want to get into the political debate because it just is about division and separation. And I want to learn. I want to be [part of] a conversation about how to build a bridge,” she concluded.
This isn’t the first time that Bure has fired back at social media haters lately. Earlier this month, she hit back at people criticizing her for a family Christmas photo that she’d posted on Instagram.
“I posted my family Christmas photo and sadly, there were so many unkind comments. Do you think it’s funny to criticize someone’s children? To make jokes about them? To critique our poses? The direction in which we are looking? Our physical appearance and facial expressions?” Bure wrote. “I wished blessings upon everyone as I shared it in the spirit of a happy new year, yet so many of you came back with jokes about our appearance and criticism of what you thought would have been a better photo.”
“Shame on you. It doesn’t matter if you’re 10 or 90 years old, rude is rude,” she added. “Be better than that. I’m praying for humanity. Manners and respect. If you don’t like something, just move on. There are people and real feelings behind every screen. P.S. Please don’t tell me to ignore the ‘haters.’ There were plenty of well meaning people who thought it would be funny to point out things and share their commentary, ‘with love.’ Umm… that’s not love. That’s rude. Try kind. It looks good on everyone.”
