Jennifer Aniston of “Friends” fame spoke out this week to defend Britney Spears as the singer continues to fight to be freed from the conservatorship that has effectively given her father Jamie total control of her life and finances.

Interviewer Laura Brown pointed out that Aniston moved to Los Angeles from New York in 1989 when she was only 20 years-old, and she has been in the Hollywood show business “lifestyle” ever since. Spears came up when Aniston talked about each of them rising to fame in the 1990s, a decade before social media took hold of the world.

“[They were] feeding on young, impressionable girls. Half of these kids started on ‘The Mickey Mouse Club.’ I was lucky enough to be raised by a very strict mother,” Aniston told In Style. “The priorities were not about becoming a famous person. It was, ‘Study your craft, learn what you’re doing, don’t just go out there and get lucky.’ I waitressed for years. I got a Bob’s Big Boy commercial on my 900th commercial audition. I was doing theater on, like, Long Island.”

The actress went on to say that the news media was the one and only opinion when it came to stars like Spears in the 1990s. However, Aniston also acknowledged that Spears was not held to the same standard as she was.

“I think that [Spears’s] group of girls as teens didn’t have any kind of ‘Who am I?’ They were being defined by this outside source,” Aniston explained. “The media took advantage of that, capitalized on them, and it ultimately cost them their sanity. It’s so heartbreaking.”

Spears is currently fighting to get out of the conservatorship that she was put into back in 2008, which pretty much gives full control over her life to her father. Page Six reported that Spears has claimed that she has been drugged into submission, forced to work against her will, and even been abused by her father.

“I have an IUD in my body right now they won’t let me take out,” Spears told a judge earlier this month.

Many stars have spoken out to defend Spears as her legal battle continues.
