Kinzinger: ‘Realistic’ Chance Trump And Pence Are Subpoenaed For Jan. 6 Committee

Representative Adam Kinzinger believes there is a “realistic” chance the House select committee investigating the Capitol riot on January 6th will subpoena former President Donald Trump and former Vice President Mike Pence.

Kinzinger made the comments in an interview with CNN’s Anderson Cooper Thursday.

“Your colleague, Chairman Bennie Thompson, has not ruled out a subpoena for former President Trump. Is that really realistic, a subpoena for him or vice president Pence?” Cooper asked.

“Yeah, I’m sure, you know, it is realistic,” replied Kinzinger (R-IL). “I mean, we’re not going to jump to doing that immediately because obviously, that’s big.”

Trump And Pence Subpoenas?

Kinzinger’s prediction that Trump and Pence might see subpoenas comes as controversy mounts over aides to the former President demonstrating a willingness to defy the committee’s orders in their individual circumstances.

Former Trump adviser Steve Bannon failed to show up for a scheduled deposition Thursday, prompting the committee to state they would seek a criminal referral.

Kinzinger is one of two Republicans on the committee, Representative Liz Cheney (R-WY) being the other. Both are hardened ‘Never Trump’ Republicans.

Cheney had told reporters at the U.S. Capitol, “In general, people are going to have to appear, or, you know, we will move contempt charges against them.”

It’d be interesting to see what would happen if the committee subpoenaed Trump and Pence. If Bannon is set to defy the committee, you know Trump, who has already argued ‘executive privilege’ in this case, would as well.

Cheney and Kinzinger are no doubt openly dreaming about the opportunity to send a criminal referral for the former President.

Kinzinger The Clown

Kinzinger, in his interview with Cooper, went on to suggest he’s simply interested in getting to the truth, something that is truly well down the list of priorities for the House select committee.

He also issued a warning to anybody – Trump and Pence included – who might consider defying the committee’s subpoenas now or in the future.

“We are determined to get to the bottom of what happened,” he declared, pretending he and his colleagues hadn’t already reached a conclusion.

“Hopefully, if people misinterpret anything else, interpret this. We’re serious about this,” declared Kinzinger. “Anybody that is either being subpoenaed now or will be in the future – think twice before you reject a lawful order from Congress.”

Perhaps his threats would be taken more seriously if he didn’t turn into a mush-faced John Boehner at the first recollection of a tense confrontation at a mostly peaceful rally on January 6th.

Side note – Further expanding his credentials as the GOP version of AOC – vapid, motivated to trash Trump with every word and action, but with slightly more levels of estrogen behind his theatrics – Kinzinger took to Twitter to suggest “Satan” was writing pro-Trump fundraising messages.

Well, isn’t that special?

Kinzinger added that he and the committee will “prove once and for all that it [January 6th] was not peaceful and frankly, that this was not anybody but really a Trump-inspired insurrection.”

See what I mean about the conclusion already having been reached?

Trump responded to the threats of criminal referrals for his former aides in a statement Thursday.

“The January 6th Unselect Committee composed of Radical Left Democrats and a few horrible RINO Republicans is looking to hold people in criminal contempt for things relative to the protest, when in fact they should hold themselves in criminal contempt,” he said.

“They are using prosecutors and prosecutions to destroy more than half of this country and the people are not going to stand for it!” added Trump.
