On Saturday, prior to President Donald Trump’s departure for a North Carolina rally, he shared statements regarding the SCOTUS nominee. He plans to announce the nominee by next week and stated that it will “most likely” be a woman.

President Trump has made it clear that he doesn’t agree with the Republicans in the Senate to wait until after the election to confirm his SCOTUS pick.

Reports have suggested Trump’s top picks for the nomination are 7th Circuit Court Judge Amy Coney Barrett, 11th Circuit Court Judge Barbara Lagoa and 4th Circuit Court Judge Allison Rushing.
“From a constitutional standpoint, I think it’s the greatest list ever assembled,” Trump said of his nominee shortlist. “I think we’ll have a very popular choice whoever that may be.”
Trump and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell have both confirmed their intention to move forward with filling Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s SCOTUS seat after she passed away Friday evening.
The move was met with outcry from Democrats pointing to Republicans’ refusal to fill Justice Antonin Scalia’s seat prior to the 2016 election.
The behavior from the democrats about RBG’s passing is giving me PTSD from how they behaved after President Trump won his first election. Good grief.
The Senate has a 53-47 Republican majority, which means that four Republicans could be responsible for preventing President Trump’s SCOTUS nominee from going through. However, if there happens to be a tie, then Vice President Mike Pence is responsible for the decision.
The Senator of Maine, Susan Collins, stated on Saturday that she believes it would be unfair to the American people if the decision is made before the election and should be placed on hold until the president who is officially elected on November 3rd can make the decision.
“Given the proximity of the presidential election, however, I do not believe that the Senate should vote on the nominee prior to the election,” Collins said in a statement on Saturday. “In fairness to the American people, who will either be re-electing the president or selecting a new one, the decision on a lifetime appointment to the Supreme Court should be made by the president who is elected on November 3rd.”
I say, screw it! Let President Trump fulfill his rightful Constitutional duties to fill the vacant Supreme Court seat.
