Mooney Rides Trump Endorsement to West Virginia GOP Primary Win

HARPER’S FERRY, West Virginia—Two Republican incumbents spent six months and more than $6 million trying to out-Trump each other but, in the end, only one got the former president’s endorsement and that proved to be the difference.
Rep. Alex Mooney (R) defeated Rep. David McKinley (R) in a battle of sitting congressmen Tuesday in West Virginia’s 2nd Congressional District (CD 2) Republican primary, according to a projection by Decision Desk HQ.

With 67 percent of the districts reporting at 8:56 p.m., Mooney received 50.25 percent of the vote to McKinley’s 39.59 percent, according to Decision Desk HQ.
Mooney overcame an early polling deficit after receiving an endorsement from former Republican President Donald Trump in November.
