Stick a fork in Joe Biden. He’s done.
Democratic strategists, speaking with NBC News on Sunday, assert that the failed assassination attempt on Donald Trump, coupled with the recent turmoil within his party following the debate, severely damaged his candidacy and prompted calls for his withdrawal.
A veteran Democratic source bemoaned, “We’re so beyond f—ed,” highlighting how the picture of Trump raising his fist with blood splattered across his face will be a memorable sight leading up to Election Day.
According to an anonymous veteran Democratic consultant, “The presidential contest ended last night.” This person spoke to the network to provide an honest assessment of the party’s stance following Saturday night’s tragic events, which not only killed one rally attendee but also severely wounded two others.
Keeping the Senate and attempting to gain the House should be our current priorities, he said. “Oh, the bright side for Democrats? At least Joe Biden’s age isn’t a topic of conversation anymore.”
According to a Biden campaign spokesperson, the president will deliver “a forceful address to update the nation on the terrible attack on Trump and the need for every American citizen to come together to not just condemn, but put an end to political violence in this nation once and for all.” The spokesperson also referenced the president’s interview with NBC Nightly News host Lester Holt and his primetime speech scheduled for Sunday night.
Campaign officials have promised to “continue painting the contrast between our bright vision for the future and Trump and Republicans’ backward-looking plan over the course of the week” in response to the president’s interview on Monday night. However, according to about a dozen interviews with Democratic strategists, operatives, assistants, and voters, there is a noticeable gulf among Democrats on whether the effort to depose Trump would ultimately benefit him or not. Not many people thought it would help Biden’s campaign.
Pollster Cornell Belcher, who formerly worked for President Obama, is one of those who is somewhat more optimistic about Biden’s chances. According to him, neither the incident nor the discussion will significantly change the race.
I suppose he hasn’t followed the polls conducted after the debate.
The fact remains, though, that swing voters will not change their minds, according to Belcher.
Does the shooting cause that middle-class, suburban, college-educated mother to think, ‘Oh my God!,’ as she frets over her daughter’s future access to equal rights and the cost of her daughter’s college education? It’s Trump’s election, baby! This is not the case,” he stated.
According to another Democratic strategist, Biden’s primary case against Trump is now moot. He pointed out that Biden has been trying to persuade people that Trump is a democratic threat and an extremist.
The strategist dismissed the message as useless. His main point was that the bullet that struck Trump “probably rescued Biden’s candidacy” by ending Democratic demands for his resignation and “doomed his re-election.”
