Trump’s DOJ Move on Abortion Pill Sparks Outrage

President Donald Trump has long been a champion of the America First agenda—securing our borders, reviving American manufacturing, and putting an end to senseless foreign conflicts. His return to the Oval Office was a clear mandate from voters tired of the radical left’s policies and the failed Biden era. However, a recent development has raised eyebrows among conservatives, as the Trump administration continues a defense initiated by Biden’s Department of Justice regarding the controversial abortion pill mifepristone.

Last week, Trump’s Justice Department asked a federal judge in Texas to dismiss a lawsuit filed by three conservative states—Idaho, Missouri, and Kansas—that seeks to roll back the FDA’s relaxed restrictions on mifepristone. The states argue that the FDA dangerously loosened rules in 2016 and again in 2021, extending the drug’s permissible use from seven weeks up to ten weeks of pregnancy and allowing mail-order distribution without in-person medical consultation.

Many conservatives see the FDA’s actions as yet another attempt by unelected bureaucrats to override state sovereignty and push a radical pro-abortion agenda. The decision to continue defending the Biden administration’s stance on mifepristone is both puzzling and troubling to pro-life voters, who have consistently stood behind President Trump on his promise to protect the unborn and to appoint conservative, pro-life judges.

Pro-life advocates argue that mifepristone—also known as RU-486—is not only morally problematic but also poses significant health risks to women. Allowing abortion pills to be distributed online and through the mail without a required doctor’s visit undermines women’s health and safety. This policy shift, initiated under Biden, has led to a spike in chemical abortions, making it easier than ever to end a pregnancy without oversight or proper medical care.

The Trump administration is asking a federal judge in Texas to dismiss a case that aims to restrict access to the abortion drug mifepristone.

The request continues the Biden administration’s position in defense of the drug: that Texas isn’t the proper venue for the lawsuit.

In a Justice Department court filing, the Trump administration said Idaho, Missouri and Kansas have no ties to Texas, where the lawsuit was filed, arguing they lack standing in the suit against the Food and Drug Administration over its rules over the pills, which are available online and by mail.

“Aside from this litigation, the States do not dispute that their claims have no connection to the Northern District of Texas,” the DOJ wrote. “The states cannot keep alive a lawsuit in which the original plaintiffs were held to lack standing, those plaintiffs have now voluntarily dismissed their claims, and the States’ own claims have no connection to this District.”

This procedural defense by the Trump DOJ, emphasizing standing and venue rather than addressing the substance of the states’ claims, raises concerns among pro-life supporters. Conservatives rightly question why the administration isn’t taking the opportunity to challenge the FDA’s reckless expansion of abortion access head-on, especially after President Trump’s strong record of pro-life actions during his first term.

It’s important to note the Biden-era FDA’s aggressive push to liberalize abortion pill regulations remains deeply unpopular among conservative voters. Many hoped Trump’s administration would seize this moment to reinforce its commitment to protecting life by directly confronting the FDA’s troubling policy shift, rather than continuing Biden’s legal strategy.

Pro-life leaders have repeatedly warned about the dangers associated with chemical abortion. Kristan Hawkins, president of Students for Life of America, has called mifepristone “a dangerous drug that has harmed thousands of women,” while conservatives in Congress have introduced legislation aimed at tightening FDA oversight, not loosening it.

President Trump has consistently affirmed he is the most pro-life president in American history, and his Supreme Court appointments paved the way for the landmark reversal of Roe v. Wade. Voters trust him precisely because he took bold action against the culture of death perpetuated by left-wing radicals. He should now use every opportunity available to push back against the Biden administration’s reckless expansion of abortion access.

In the end, conservatives expect President Trump to uphold the principles that mobilized millions of Americans behind him—protecting the unborn, defending states’ rights, and safeguarding women’s health. The administration’s current stance on the mifepristone lawsuit may be procedural, but it is a missed opportunity to confront a dangerous precedent. It’s time to reaffirm our commitment to life and send a clear message that America First includes protecting our most vulnerable citizens.
