New Details Come To Light About What Was Done With Eddie Van Halen’s Body After His Death

It’s been two months since the legendary rocker Eddie Van Halen tragically passed away after a battle with cancer. Now, new details have come to light about what was done with his body after his passing.

A death certificate obtained by TMZ shows that Van Halen was cremated 22 days after his death, and it is believed that his 29 year-old son Wolfgang will scatter his ashes in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of Malibu, California.

Wolfgang told Entertainment Tonight last month that he was overwhelmed by the “monumental” amount of support from fans after the death of his father, who was diagnosed with stage four lung cancer in 2017 and told he had six weeks to live. Thanks to treatment in Germany, however, Van Halen was able to make it three years.

Wolfgang explained that while spending time with his dad during his final days was a blessing, it was also “really rough.”

“It just seems like he never got a break,” he said. “Things just kept piling on and piling on. The second he would get a wind, it was one step forward, two steps back. But for the worst situation and experience of my life, it couldn’t have gone smoother. I was very happy I was able to spend every second with him that I could.”

When asked about his father’s legacy, Wolfgang replied that he believes the Van Halen guitarist’s legacy will be as “the Mozart of our generation.”

“I think the way we look back at people like Mozart and Beethoven — you put that amount of time ahead of us and I think people will still be looking back at him,” he said. “[The way he played] was amazing. It rubbed off on me because that’s all I wanted to do. That’s all I’m going to do — play music.”

This comes after Wolfgang released his new song “Distance,” which is dedicated to his dad. The music video for the song features home videos of his father, and it ends with a touching voicemail that Eddie once left for him.

“He used to leave me messages like that all the time,” Wolfgang said. “There wasn’t a specific occasion that warranted that voicemail — that’s just how loving and amazing he was. He said stuff like that all the time and luckily, going through my phone, I found a couple of voicemails that were wonderful.”

“I thought that one was a really great way to cap the video off, to really show people how loving of a father he was,” he continued.
