One of the top racial justice activists from Indianapolis, Indiana admitted this week that she has been lying about her race for years, and that she is actually white.
Activist Admits She Lied About Being Black
Satchuel Cole has spent years being one of the most visible racial justice activists in her city as she rose to prominence working with her local chapter of Black Lives Matter. Back in 2017, she even acted as the spokesperson for the family of Aaron Bailey, who was killed by police during a traffic stop in June of that year, according to The Indy Star.
Cole finally admitted that she is actually white in a Facebook post on Wednesday after Black Indy LIVE published an article exposing her family history.
“Friends, I need to take accountability for my actions and the harm that I have done,” Cole wrote in the post. “My deception and lies have hurt those I care most about. I have taken up space as a Black person while knowing I am white.”

“I have used Blackness when it was not mine to use. I have asked for support and energy as a Black person,” she continued. “I have caused harm to the city, friends and the work that I held so dear.”
“I will do the work to take responsibility for my actions and try to reduce the harm that I have already caused,” she added. “If there are ways to repair the harm, I will do the work that is required to do so.”
“I will continue to seek the help necessary to heal myself,” Cole said. “I am sorry for the harm I have caused. I am sorry for the hurt and betrayal. I will do what I can to show that I want to be a better person.”
Cole Lied About Her Background
Cole was born Jennifer Benton, and that was her legal name until she changed it back in 2010. Once she changed her name, Cole started telling people that she was bi-racial, claiming to her fellow activists that she had a black father who she never met. Official documents, however, show that both her parents are actually white.

This comes weeks after George Washington University Professor Jessica Krug admitted that she lied about being black. She then resigned from her position at the school.
“I should absolutely be cancelled,” Krug said in a Medium post earlier this month.
