Thank God Chasten has taken time away from chestfeeding to weigh in on the Texas tragedy. (And if you don’t know who Chasten is, he’s the hubs of Pete. His Twitter bio describes him as “husband, father, teacher, advocate, and bestselling author. (he/him)).
Anywho, he had some things to say about people who believe in single-point entry:
As someone who ran lockdown drills and worked on the school safety committee, a “one door” solution is an irresponsible and egregious recommendation far removed from reality. A shooter isn’t going to stop and sign in at the front office.

Sigh.
Chasten worked on a committee, y’all. So he knows how IRRESPONSIBLE a “one door” solution is. Which is weird, because buildings that his husband goes into on a regular basis are secured in that very manner. Huh.
This take is a good one:
Places we frequent with only one door/limited sites of access:
1. Banks
2. Airports
3. Hospitals/Medical Centers/abortion clinics
4. Congress
5. SCOTUS
6. White House
7. MANY JOURNALISM OUTLETSBut schools? BRIDGE TOO FAR.

To be clear (because SO MANY PEOPLE ARE NOT CLEAR ABOUT THIS), single point of entry does not equate to single point of exit. People can still exit a building from multiple doors.
And the fact that we haven’t already incorporated this in all of our schools across the country? Madness.
