Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot Blocks Her Street From Protesters: ‘I Have A Right To Make Sure That My Home Is Secure’

Hypocrite.

Pretender.

Phony.

Imposter.

These are all words that describe Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot. This woman has no shame, if she has any self-awareness at all.

After letting protests and violence run wild throughout the city of Chicago, Mayor Lightfoot has apparently drawn the line at her own doorstep.

Some neighbors are calling the area around Lightfoot’s house Fort Lori. Sounds appropriate since the area around Lightfoot’s home has been barricaded and blocked by police to keep the Mayor safe. As much as it pains me, I will give Lightfoot a small amount of credit here by noting that she has not supported the Defund The Police movement.

From The Chicago Tribune:

Mayor Lori Lightfoot defended the Chicago Police Department’s ban on protesters being able to demonstrate on the block where she lives, telling reporters Thursday that she and her family at times require heightened security because of threats she receives daily.

Lightfoot refused to elaborate on the specific threats, but said she receives them daily against herself, her wife and her home. Comparisons to how the Police Department has protected previous mayors’ homes, such as Rahm Emanuel’s Ravenswood residence, are unfair because “this is a different time like no other,” Lightfoot told reporters.

From NBC5 Chicago:

“This is a different time like no other and I’m not going to make any excuses for the fact that, given the threats that I personally receive, given the threats to my home and my family, I’m going to do everything I can to make sure that they are protected,” Lightfoot said during an unrelated press conference Thursday. “I make no apologies whatsoever for that. We are living in very different times and I’ve seen the threats that have come in, and I have an obligation to keep my home, my wife, my 12-year-old, and my neighbors safe. The deployments that are there are there when they are necessary – it’s not a 24-hour thing and I think that residents of the city, understanding the nature of the threats that we are receiving on a daily basis, understand that I have a right to make sure that my home is secure.”

Too bad she doesn’t do everything she can to keep the rest of the citizens of Chicago protected.

If ever there was a politician that embodied the saying “rules for thee, not for me,” it is Lightfoot.

She supports the right to protest, just not in her backyard. There really should be a picture of Lightfoot next to NIMBY in Merriam-Webster.
