China’s MAAAAAD That Top Gun Has A “PRO-AMERICA” Message. WAAAAAH.

streetwisepol June 1, 2022 Culture Comments Off on China’s MAAAAAD That Top Gun Has A “PRO-AMERICA” Message. WAAAAAH.

Y’all – I AM GOING TO SEE TOP GUN TONIGHT.  I repeat.  I’m going to see Top Gun tonight, and Mock has made me promise not to give her any spoiler alerts.  I have sworn myself to secrecy.

In the meantime, I read this.  According to that article:

A multi-billion dollar Chinese tech company pulled out of financing the new smash sequel “Top Gun: Maverick” because it was worried about angering Communist Party officials due to the film’s overtly pro-American theme, according to a report.

Awwww.  Bless their hearts.  You see, Tencent Holdings is a big (commie) financial backer for the film, giving Paramount a crapload of money to market it in China.  Apparently, the executives over there at Tencent didn’t like that there was so much rah-rah of America and the American military, so it “prompted concerns” with said executives.

(Cue Daisy’s involuntary-middle-finger response here.)

Tencent’s involvement in the project was doomed in late 2019 as diplomatic relations between Washington and Beijing deteriorated rapidly over the course of the last three years, the Journal reported.

At the time, Chinese companies were under pressure to swear loyalty to the Communist Party as part of President Xi Jinping’s so-called “anti-corruption crackdown.”

Anti-corruption crackdown?  More like commies are going to commie, amirite?  And speaking of commies, American companies are sucking up to China so as not to anger their masters, because they’re weak and pathetic progressive jackwads.

Back in 2019, people were freaking out over changes in Maverick’s bomber jacket:

Two patches that had originally shown the Japanese and Taiwanese flags have been replaced with two ambiguous symbols in the same color scheme, leading to speculation that the swap was meant to appease the People’s Republic.

Maverick’s first jacket sported a large patch that read “Far East Cruise 63-4, USS Galveston,” commemorating an actual US battleship’s tour of Japan, Taiwan and the Western Pacific.

In the new flick, the jacket still includes the American and UN flags, but the Japanese and Taiwanese flags are nowhere to be seen — and the Galveston is not mentioned, according to Business Insider.

One possible reason for the difference is that “Top Gun: Maverick” is partly produced by Chinese film distributor Tencent Pictures, the Japan Times reported.

Yeeeeeeah.  Lord forbid they anger their commie masters, huh?  (All while enjoying the FRUITS of their capitalist hometown, of course).

The thing is, American people really want to see this movie – especially people in MY generation.  This movie is part of GenX’s DNA.  And let’s face it – so many Americans are hungry for a pro-America sentiment – more so than what the progressive-socialist counterparts would like you to believe.  The turnout for this movie is proof of that.  It made $124 million in three days.  And I venture to say that it’ll just keep making money.  There was a time when we didn’t give two sh*ts what China thought about Tom Cruise’s bomber jacket, because we are the freaking UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.

Remember?  Yep – a lot of us do remember.  And that’s precisely why we’re going to see this movie – in droves.

Paying attention, China?

Because we remember Maverick. And tradition. And hot, sweaty volleyball dudes on beaches.  And guys who pick up women by singing 60’s tunes to them in bars.  And  RayBan sunglasses.  And a strong military.  And MEN who are freaking MEN.  And women who are women.  And AMERICA being the greatest country on the face of the planet.

Suck on that, commies.  AMERICA.
