Conservative Victory: Dan Crenshaw Loses Race To Chair Homeland Security Committee to Freedom Caucus Member Green

Anti-MAGA Representative Dan Crenshaw failed in his bid to chair the House Homeland Security Committee in the new Republican Congress, losing out to House Freedom Caucus member Mark Green.

The disappointing news for Crenshaw comes after his repeated tirade against GOP lawmakers who initially refused to back Kevin McCarthy for Speaker last week, referring to them as “clowns” and “terrorists.”

Green, unlike his opponent, vowed to use his new vital role on the committee to focus on the crisis at the southern border.

“For the sake of our national security and homeland security, we must secure our border,” Green said in a statement.

“We have no choice. We will empower our brave CBP agents to do their jobs and hold President Biden and Secretary Mayorkas accountable for the crisis that they created.”

Green, a Tennessee Republican who is a three-tour combat veteran of Afghanistan and Iraq, praised Crenshaw (R-TX) for having run “a spirited race.”

“I’m grateful for his friendship and leadership,” Green said. “I look forward to working with him, a fellow veteran who understands our national security challenges, to secure our homeland.”

The Daily Mail reports that the defeat of Crenshaw “could be a sign of conservatives’ newly-expanded influence over the House GOP.”

Both Green and Crenshaw supported McCarthy’s bid for the Speaker’s gavel in each ballot last week.

But McCarthy had to make some concessions to the hard-line conservatives opposing his selection. As such, he promised to bolster the Freedom Caucus’s representation on top committees.

Jim Jordan (R-OH) will chair the full House Judiciary committee as well as a potential Select Subcommittee on the Weaponization of the Federal Government.

Crenshaw Apologizes For Calling Colleagues ‘Terrorists’

During the throes of the Speaker votes last week, Dan Crenshaw made an ill-advised comment comparing the America First lawmakers standing up to McCarthy to “terrorists.”

“We cannot let the terrorists win. That’s basically what’s happening,” he said during a radio broadcast.

They’re not terrorists of course, but they’re still winning.

Crenshaw would later double down, denouncing the group as “these fucking people” and declaring “they’re just being clowns.”

He insisted the original comment was simply “a figure of speech” and demanded people “get over it.”

Once McCarthy had secured the gavel, Crenshaw offered up a rather weak apology.

“Look, things get heated, and things get said,” he told CNN’s Jake Tapper. “I don’t want them to think I actually believe they’re terrorists. It’s clearly a turn of phrase that you use in what is an intransigent negotiation.”

Despite the apology, Crenshaw has now lost the chance to Chair the Homeland Security committee.

Looks like he’ll just have to ‘get over it.’
