Earlier this week, we reported that the former “Saved By The Bell” star Dustin Diamond had passed away at the age of 44 after a short battle with cancer. Now, his girlfriend has broken her silence as new details about his death come to light.
Diamond’s 39 year-old girlfriend Tash was with him the day he died.
“He was the love of my life,” she told Daily Mail. “We planned on a future together and spoke often about having kids. I’m heartbroken.”
Tash also talked about the last time she spoke to Diamond just before he died at their friend Jules’ home in Fort Myers, Florida.
“Even though he was struggling to breathe and had difficulty speaking he was able to get out the words to me, ‘I love you.’ I told him ‘I loved him back,” she recalled.
Diamond was hospitalized last Friday, but he was taken to Jules’ home on Monday to be put in hospice there. Tash said they got to her home minutes before the actor died.
“After I got out of our car I went into the house to be with Dustin. That was when I discovered he wasn’t breathing,” she said.
Diamond was pronounced dead minutes later. His best friend Dan Block, president of Insurance Kings, said that he last spoke to the star the Thursday before his death.
“I spoke with Dustin the night before [he was hospitalized again], Thursday. He told me he was in a lot of pain and the meds he was taking weren’t working,” Block recalled. “But he was excited to see his father who was flying out from California to see him the next morning.”
Block added that after being rushed to the hospital on Friday, Diamond was “barely speaking” by Sunday.
“He was able to say a few things on Sunday, and was able to ask for a smoothie. But he was in pain. He got really bad by Sunday evening,” he said. “By Monday you could tell he was in pain, I think he was suffering, by the way he was breathing.”
Block went on to talk about how those close to Diamond felt after his death.
“It was terrible. … We were all crying that he was gone. We knew he was suffering and now he wasn’t,” Block said. “Dustin didn’t want a gravestone or a memorial service. He is going to be cremated in the next week and his remains are going to be split among Tash and his father, Mark.”
Diamond had only just been diagnosed with cancer last month after ignoring a lump on his neck for some time. His decline happened very quickly from there.
