Failed presidential candidate Elizabeth Warren is pushing paid sick leave and lots of other goodies as part of a fourth coronavirus stimulus.

As far as I’m concerned, let’s not do a fourth coronavirus relief bill. The Democrats just want it to be a Christmas wish list.  Republicans should have none of that.  Burn all drafts of all the bills.

The Hill reports:

Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) is pushing for universal paid sick leave and “premium pay” for essential workers as part of Congress’s fourth coronavirus aid bill.

Warren and Rep. Ro Khanna (D-Calif.) on Monday unveiled an “Essential Workers Bill of Rights,” which outlined nearly a dozen of their policy priorities as lawmakers begin to consider next legislative steps as the number of coronavirus cases within the United States continues to grow.

Warren and Khanna’s bill calls for the following:

  • Universal paid sick leave
  • 12 weeks PAID family and medical leave
  • Employer-paid personal protective equipment
  • “Robust premium pay” for essential workers
  • Whistleblower protections
  • Free healthcare coverage for essential workers
  • Access to child care for essential workers

Elizabeth Warren was rejected by Democratic voters. Even they did not want her socialist, nanny state policies. So what makes her think she should shove all her nanny-state dreams into a bill under the guise of coronavirus relief?

We all know that if the Democrats get paid sick leave and all the other proposed goodies, they will never be taken away. These temporary measures will undoubtedly turn into permanent entitlements that we cannot afford.

I will grant that some of the ideas in Warren’s bill make sense, such as free PPE for essential workers. However, we are at the point in the coronavirus battle where I, like many Americans, would like our leaders to focus on how we can open back up.

Leadership must focus on those things that need to be done (such as widespread testing, antibody tests, etc) so that we can begin, as much as possible, to return to normal life.

Let’s stop policies focused on shutdown and instead focus on policies related to opening back up.
