The disgraced Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein and fashion designer Georgina Chapman finally finalized their divorce this week four years after they split.
“Harvey’s only thoughts are happiness for his family and the hope that his children are always cared for and happy,” Juda Engelmayer, Weinstein’s publicist, told US Weekly. “He loves them and hopes that they know it, and that one day soon, he can be closer to them.”
Weinstein, 69, and Chapman, 45, married back in 2007 and are parents to daughter India, 10, and son Dashiell, 8. Chapman filed for divorce from Weinstein in October of 2017 after dozens of women came forward to accuse him of sexual assault.
In January of 2018, Weinstein and Chapman reached a settlement after working out details regarding their property, a custody agreement and a prenuptial agreement. The terms of this settlement have never been made public.
One month after their split, Weinstein opened up about the situation in an interview.
“I sat down with my wife Georgina, who I love more than anything, and we discussed what was best for our family,” Weinstein said. “We discussed the possibility of a separation and I encouraged her to do what was in her heart. In the end, she made the decision to separate.”
Since then, Chapman has started dating the Academy Award-winning actor Adrien Brody, and the couple made their red carpet debut together last month at the Tribeca Film Festival.
Weinstein was found guilty of rape in New York in February of 2020, and was sentenced to 23 years in prison. He is currently serving out his sentence at the Wende Correctional Facility in New York, and his earliest possible release date is in November of 2039. At some point, he is also set to be extradited to Los Angeles to stand trial for various sex charges there as well.
Weinstein’s lawyers have claimed that he should not be extradited to California because he is allegedly suffering from various serious health problems, according to Variety. They claim that he has dental problems that have seen him have four teeth removed, and that he is also experiencing cardiac issues, back issues, sleep apnea, and is nearly legally blind. On top of that, they allege that he requires a walker to get around.
