Lance Waldroup, Former Star Of Discovery’s ‘Moonshiners,’ Dies At 30

Fans of the Discovery Channel reality show “Moonshiners” are in mourning this week after Lance Waldroup, who starred in the early seasons of the show, passed away. He was 30 years-old.

An obituary for Waldroup stated that he died on February 25 at his home in Robbinsville, North Carolina. The show “Moonshiners” paid tribute to Waldroup on its official Facebook page after his death was reported.

“We are saddened to hear about the loss of Lance Waldroup. An adventurous distiller who was featured alongside his father throughout the early seasons of Moonshiners, Lance was always looking to take his flavorful recipes of ‘shine to new heights,” the statement read. “He will be sorely missed. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family at this difficult time.”

Though no cause of death was given, a GoFundMe page that was set up for Waldroup’s family gives an indication of some of the challenges he faced in life.

“Growing up Lance was extremely close to his sister Lyndsey,” the page stated. “Lyndsey loved to cook and Lance loved to eat! His sister Lyndsey had Cystic Fibrosis and she passed away when she was 11 years old.  Lance was also close to his brother Lamar and they did everything together.  His brother Lamar also had Cystic Fibrosis and had to have a lung transplant.  Lamar lived for 1 1/2 years with the lung transplant and did pass away when he was 20 years old.”

“This left Lance with no siblings.  Lance suffered from extreme ‘Survivor’s Guilt’ and he eventually turned to drugs,” it added.”He was an addict for several years and then decided to turn his life around.  He went to rehab and had become a recovered addict.  His mother Lynn was diagnosed with MS (Multiple Sclerosis) and Lance knew he had to be there for her.  He quit Moonshiners to take care of his mother full time doing all the cooking and cleaning.  He did not want to leave her side and waited on her hand and foot.”

Waldroup spent six season starring on “Moonshiners” before leaving the show.

“Lance had such a kind loving soul and was always there for others in need,” the GoFundMe page continued, adding that this is why it’s so important that the public now help his family in their time of need.

Rest in peace, Lance Waldroup.
