NYT Changes Wordle Answer So “Fetus” Doesn’t Trigger People

I love word games and I’m darn good at Wordle. If you are unfamiliar with the game, it’s a five-letter word puzzle. You guess five letter words and it tells you whether each letter in your guess is in the answer word but incorrectly placed, in the word and correctly placed, or not in the word at all. You have six tries to guess the correct five-letter word, which is automatically generated each day from a massive list of five-letter words in the game’s database. I was pretty annoyed when I heard that the New York Times had bought the game because I figured they’d try to make me pay for it, and I don’t like it enough to pay the NYT for it, so I would have been bummed. But I should have been worried about their leftist politics creeping into the game. How did I not see this coming?

On Monday, May 9th, the daily Wordle answer was “fetus.” But The New York Times apparently decided that word might trigger leftist snowflake Wordle players because of all the Supreme Court draft decision drama going on right now. Heaven forbid someone be forced to guess the word “fetus” and think about how they may not be able to kill their babies as easily any more. So The New York Times changed the answer word and issued a statement apologizing and explaining,

“Some users may see an outdated answer that seems closely connected to a major recent news event. This is entirely unintentional and a coincidence. At New York Times Games, we take our role seriously as a place to entertain and escape, and we want Wordle to remain distinct from the news.”

Apparently, they tried to switch the answer last week when they discovered that it was lined up to appear as the answer for today, but that it couldn’t be changed for everyone. But why switch it at all? Fetus is a legitimate and accurate word. Leftists think a fetus is just a clump of meaningless cells to be sucked out and tossed in the trash like potato peelings. Conservatives think that a fetus is a preborn human with immense potential and the right to life. Either way, fetus is simply a five-letter word in the human language. Seems ridiculous to pander and grovel at the feet of the easily offended minority for things as trivial as the answer to a word puzzle.
