Prince Charles is reportedly having a very difficult time dealing with the feud between his two sons, Prince William and Prince Harry.
Charles, 72, has always had a complicated relationship with his two sons, which has made it difficult for him to intervene in the battle between them as more revelations come to light. A friend of Charles’ told People Magazine that the royal is “shellshocked by it all.”
“He is very hurt and upset [by the ongoing fallout],” the friend said.
Relations between the brothers have derailed in the past year since Harry left the royal family. They’ve worsened over the past few months as Harry has blasted the royal family in a series of interviews. When Harry returned to the United Kingdom two months ago for his grandfather Prince Philip’s funeral, the royal family was hopeful that he and William would reconcile.
“Everyone was optimistic,” a source close to the royal household said, “but nothing really happened.”
“There was not really any time to build bridges,” another source added.
This comes after Harry attacked Charles’ parenting skills in his new mental health docuseries The Me You Can’t See.
“My father used to say to me when I was younger, he used to say to [Prince] William and I, ‘Well, it was like that for me, so it’s gonna be like that for you.’ That doesn’t make sense,” Harry said. “Just because you suffered, it doesn’t mean that your kids have to suffer. In fact, quite the opposite. If you suffered, do everything you can to make sure that whatever experiences, negative experiences that you had, you can make it right for your kids.”
A royal source said that Charles was livid about the series.
“Charles is boiling with anger and feels tortured by Harry with his constant digs. He wishes he’d just let it drop,” the insider explained. “The general consensus within the royal family is to ignore Harry’s behavior, to avoid fanning the flames, but Charles is finding it hard to hold back. He really wants to defend himself.”
Royal expert Stewart Pearce, who was friends with the late Princess Diana, told US Magazine that this has been difficult for Charles to handle because he is a “very, very shy man, a very sensitive and delicate man.”
