Report: Biden Administration Considering I.D. For Illegal Immigrants To Make It Easier To Access Benefits

The Biden administration is reportedly mulling a plan to provide temporary I.D. cards to illegal immigrants so they can, in part, more easily access government benefits.

Two sources familiar with the planning told Axios about the pilot program which they say the administration is hoping will get Congressional approval before the midterm elections.

Axios notes that the program is significant because “recent border crossers and other unauthorized immigrants” don’t have access to proper identification, “making it more difficult to access housing, healthcare, transportation and other benefits.”

The sources indicate the pilot program would provide I.D. to those awaiting a final decision on their cases and provide an incentive for them to remain in contact with law enforcement.

I.D. For Illegal Immigrants to Access Benefits

Axios writes that the I.D. cards for illegal immigrants are designed partially to “relieve some of those burdens” associated with having difficulty in accessing government benefits.

The Daily Mail describes the report as President Biden “roll(ing) out the Rio Grande red carpet.”

Congress included $10 million in its Fiscal Year 2023 appropriations bill for the so-called “ICE Secure Docket Card program.”

The I.D. cards would reportedly feature a photo and identifying features while one ICE spokesperson indicates they will have “cutting-edge security features” for “the mutual benefit of the government and noncitizens.”

Would Be Allowed to Fly

The Axios report goes on to highlight that should the program be given a green light by Congress, ICE would consider further expansion for their use.

“They could be presented to TSA agents to allow unauthorized immigrants to more easily travel by plane,” they explain, “or to access certain state benefit programs” as well.

According to statistics from U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), 56 people on the terror watchlist were apprehended trying to enter the U.S. between ports of entry since the fiscal year began in October.

Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas made the claim the claim last week that the border “is secure,” even as roughly 4 million illegal immigrants have crossed since Biden took office.

By no means will providing them with I.D. cards for greater access to federal and state government benefits deter them in any way.

The Biden administration’s Department of Justice in November had reportedly considered paying illegal immigrants who were previously separated at the border as high as $450,000 per illegal and potentially $1 million per family.

The President initially dismissed the report as “garbage” before White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre admitted Biden would be “perfectly comfortable” with it.

In other news on incentivizing illegals to continue pouring over the border, Florida Rep. Kat Cammack (R-FL) revealed the administration was shipping baby formula to illegal immigrants, and other reports confirmed they were handing out smartphones.

The program providing I.D. for illegal immigrants is, according to Axios, being rammed through quickly “before a potential Republican takeover in November.”
