We cannot let the government have unlimited power and use this #Covid_19 crisis to their advantage:https://t.co/RqlctwbE0w via @BreitbartNews

There are more and more stories emerging about stay at home orders and social distancing that are making me uneasy. We still have a constitution, right?
Various state and local governments seem to be exercising, willy nilly, unchecked power. Some business are essential; others are non-essential. Some gatherings are legal; others are illegal.
We have already seen some states say that gun shops are not essential and should be closed. The government seems very quick and cavalier about throwing away First and Second Amendment rights. And it’s all being done under the guise of protecting us.
The latest example of this comes out of North Carolina. Many states have deemed the baby killing (abortion) industry to be essential. So in the midst of locking down to save lives, babies must still be exterminated.
However, a pro-life group in North Carolina is not giving up their ministry at abortion clinics.
A small group representing Cities4Life staged a weekend protest outside the Preferred Women’s Health Center of Charlotte. Video of the protest shows the group maintained proper social distancing requirements.
However, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department determined the gathering violated a state order banning “mass gatherings.”
…
Among the eight individuals arrested was Cities4Life board chairman David Benham, a nationally-known Christian leader and prominent North Carolina businessman. He was handcuffed and hauled off to jail.
“They arrested me,” Benham said during an interview on The Todd Starnes Radio Show. “We were doing everything within our rights under the law. We went above and beyond.”
Why would the police arrest a handful of law-abiding pro-lifers when the local parks were packed with people violating social distancing regulations?
“This is a constitutional crisis,” Benham said. “This is clear government overreach. This is viewpoint discrimination.”
Benham has a legitimate argument. If he had been standing in a local park he would not have been arrested. But he was standing outside an abortion clinic – and that was a problem for Democrat leaders in the area.
“They aren’t arresting people in the park that are gathering way more than 10 people,” he said. “They are not arresting people outside your hipster store. They arrested me.”
Benham is entirely correct. For some reason, large numbers of people can gather at parks and trails and the Home Depot and the local Kroger. Why can’t a group safely gather to protest abortion? This does not add up.
The fact that there is a virus does not mean the constitution is canceled. These people were assembling while also taking proper care to maintain social distance.
This reeks of a group being targeted because of their beliefs and for what they were protesting. This is not out of any genuine concern for the health and safety of people.
Benham rightly argues, “If abortion is an essential business, then our pro-life ministry is also an essential business.”
People with power, everywhere and all throughout history, are prone to abuse that power. As Edmund Burke observed, “The greater the power, the more dangerous the abuse.”
We are witnessing this occurring right now in the United States of America. Unfortunately, the longer this lockdown lasts, the more of these type of stories we will see.
