It has officially been confirmed that Sister Act 3 is in development, much to the joy of millions of fans!
People Magazine reported that Walt Disney Studios Motion Picture Production President Sean Bailey announced that a third Sister Act movie is underway on Thursday during Disney Investor Day, adding that it will be debuting on Disney+.
Whoopi Goldberg will be returning to play Deloris Van Cartier, a lounge singer who has to be placed in the witness protection program and be relocated as a nun in a convent after witnessing a murder. She originated this role nearly thirty years ago in the original 1992 movie, and she reprised it in the sequel one year later. Goldberg will also be producing the third movie alongside Hollywood mogul Tyler Perry, who she has previously collaborated with three times.

During a recent interview with late night television host James Corden, Goldberg had said that she was trying to get the cast back together.
“For a long time, they kept saying no one wanted to see it,” Goldberg said. “And then quite recently, it turns out, that may not be true. People may want to see it. So, we’re working diligently to try to figure out how to get the gang together and come back.”
She added that the first two movies were “fun and it feels good.”
“And you know, nobody’s mad,” Goldberg continued. “It’s just, listen — bad singing, great singing, OK singing, and then nuns. What’s better than that?”
Perry has previously talked about a potential third Sister Act movie, recently telling television host Andy Cohen that Goldberg and the comedian Tiffany Haddish should star in it.
“The two of them in Sister Act, that should happen. Let’s make it happen,” he said.
CNN reported that this was just one of many projects that Disney unveiled on Thursday to air on various television and movie platforms. Others included a television version of the “Alien” movie franchise, which will air on Fox, and “Rangers of the New Republic,” a new original series that is set within the Star Wars Mandalorian universe, which will be streaming on Disney+.
