Former President Donald Trump’s leadership PAC “Save America” will be heading into the second quarter of 2021 with what those with knowledge of the situation call a “gargantuan” sum of cash on hand.

Because the PAC files its disclosures semiannually, official figures won’t be public until summer, but the cash on hand for the Save America PAC stands reportedly at $85 million.

Such a sum – which will surely only grow – will give Trump the ability to make a serious impact on the 2022 midterm elections as Republicans attempt to regain control of the House and Trump seeks to reshape the GOP.

GOP Concerned Trump Could Hurt Their Fundraising Efforts

While there is some disagreement within the Republican Party about how closely to align with the former president, the Republican National Committee and congressional campaign arms don’t mind the fact that at least some association with Trump brings in donations.

The problem is that Trump has encouraged supporters to give directly to him and bypass those Republican groups that would traditionally raise money.

Longtime Republican donor Dan Eberhart said, “Trump’s call to give directly to him shows that the normal organs of the party … are going to have to fight for relevance in the 2022 cycle.”

Bill Palatucci, an RNC member from New Jersey said Trump’s CPAC comments were “unwelcome” and “counterproductive.”

He also said that he fears that Republicans will lose more races like the Georgia Senate runoff races if they do not work together.

Trump Already Endorsing Candidates

Several candidates who have thrown their hat in the ring for elected office in 2022 already enjoy the endorsement of President Trump.

These include Sens. Jerry Moran (R-KS), John Boozman (R-AR), John Kennedy (R-LA), Tim Scott (R-SC), and South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster.

Trump has also endorsed North Carolina Congressman Madison Cawthorn, as well as former White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders, who will make a run for Governor in Arkansas in 2022.

Most recently, Trump has endorsed the Senate run of Alabama Congressman Mo Brooks. The Hill reports that Trump’s endorsement of Brooks will make him the frontrunner for the GOP nomination in Alabama.

Trump won Alabama in 2016 and 2020 by over 20 points.

RNC Spring Retreat In Florida

The RNC will hold its annual Spring Retreat this weekend in Florida, and a portion of that meeting will take place at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort, where Trump speak.

The event could be an offering of cooperation on the part of the RNC.

Some of the attendees scheduled to attend and have been mentioned as possible 2024 presidential contenders are Arkansas Senator Tom Cotton, Florida Senator Rick Scott, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem, and former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.
