Republican Senator Kelly Loeffler from Georgia is ruffling some feathers in the WNBA. You see, she is not in lockstep with the Black Lives Matter movement.
And as recently seems to be the case, dissent from liberal orthodoxy is not allowed and must be punished.
Loeffler is a part owner in the Atlanta Dream WNBA team. The current brouhaha started after Loeffler wrote a letter to league commissioner, Cathy Engelbert.
Proud of @KLoeffler for standing up to the mob wanting sports to be about uniting people, not dividing people based on political agendas. https://t.co/WLUwS63nbc

Loeffler sent a letter to WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert, asking her to forget about the plans for players to wear warmup jerseys with “Black Lives Matter” and “Say Her Name.” Instead, she asked for all uniforms and apparel to have the American flag on it.
“The truth is, we need less — not more — politics in sports. In a time when polarizing politics is as divisive as ever, sports has the power to be a unifying antidote,” Loeffler wrote. “And now more than ever, we should be united in our goal to remove politics from sports.”
A co-owner of the Dream since 2011, Loeffler said that she wasn’t consulted about the league’s new social justice policy.
Engelbert issued a statement in response to Loeffler in a statement.
“The WNBA is based on the principle of equal and fair treatment of all people and we, along with the teams and players, will continue to use our platforms to vigorously advocate for social justice,” the commissioner said. “Sen. Kelly Loeffler has not served as a Governor of the Atlanta Dream since October 2019 and is no longer involved in the day-to-day business of the team.”
The players union will not stand for a lack of political messages on the jersey, especially if they would instead have American flags. Horror of horrors!

Sadly, many of the comments in the thread are against Loeffler and hateful toward America. No matter, Loeffler is not backing down.
“We have this cancel culture that is threatening America and the foundation of it is that Americans are afraid to speak out because of the cancel culture. And, I’m not going to be silenced by it,” she said. “And, I encourage other Americans to speak out. And, I’m going to stand for them because I am taking a tax from the left and they’re not just attacking me; they want to destroy me.”
It’s hard to believe that this is a profitable venture for Loeffler and at all worth her time and aggravation. Does anyone really watch the WNBA? Or is it all just subsidized by the NBA?
Kudos to Loeffler for not backing down. She is keeping up the fight and will not be silenced or cancelled. The American Flag on the uniform should not be controversial. It is a sad state of affairs that we are at point in time where it is.
BLM — which embraces anti-Semitism, supports defunding the police, and promotes violence — is a political movement totally misaligned with the values of the @WNBA & Atlanta Dream. Period. #gapol #gasen pic.twitter.com/FSuZf7Wv6u

Trying to add more politics to sports creates more division.
More than ever, we should unite around a symbol of equality & freedom — the American flag.
That shouldn’t be controversial.

I’m calling for unity around the American flag — the ultimate symbol of freedom.
I’m calling for rejection of a movement that promotes violence, attacks police, & embraces anti-Semitism.
Who’s really on the wrong side of history, @ReverendWarnock?
Sounds like it’s you. #gapol https://t.co/wkutd7nZwE
