Outrage has ensued in Texas this week after a woman was caught driving over the graves of military veterans at Houston National Cemetery on Mother’s Day.

The woman was reportedly trying to avoid traffic on Sunday after the flyover from the Lone Star Flight Museum honoring the 75th anniversary of VE Day, the day World War II ended. The horrifying incident was captured on camera by Jeremiah Johnston, who said afterwards that he could not believe what he was seeing when she drove over the graves.

“I was shocked, and never would have expected that to happen,” Johnston told KTRK. “This is Houston, and there are crazy drivers, and I never would have expected to see them going through a cemetery. Especially when everyone was there to pay their respects during a patriotic flyover.”

Amanda Hill, another witness, said that she saw the woman trying to rush out of the area as soon as the flyover came to an end.

“She tried to back up, and then went up on the curb of the section where my grandparents are buried,” Hill recalled. “[The woman] couldn’t get around some cars, and then she started running over the graves.

“She heard us yelling at her to stop, and just kept doing it,” Hill continued, adding that she saw the woman drive over dozens of graves. “My mother approached the van, and the driver told her she had to get out.”

The woman finally made it out of the cemetery, but not before she was recorded on camera.

“She knew she was being photographed, but she didn’t care,” said Hill. “I was talking to my parents earlier and said, ‘I don’t want this to be a huge deal and reflect negatively,’ and my mom said, ‘No. Your grandfather would be proud of you for making sure this woman gets justice, because they would be appalled.’”

“I felt bad for the families whose loved ones’ graves were run over,” Hill continued. “It’s so disrespectful and especially on a day when we’re honoring veterans of World War ll.”

The woman has not yet been identified at this time, but if her identity ever is revealed, she will definitely be dealing with the wrath of millions of angry Texans who won’t let someone disrespect veterans without suffering the consequences.
