Andrew Yang Addresses Men’s Struggle in 2022 America

If you’re like me, you probably find the presidential primaries to be the peak of entertainment. Leading up to the 2020 elections, we had fodder for literal nonstop media consumption, and one of my favorite figures of the Democratic primaries was Andrew Yang– not necessarily because I agreed with his policies, but because he provided an important voice in the discussion.

I’m still a pretty big fan of Yang, and today he shared an op-ed he wrote that is emblematic of what I admire about him:

In the piece he wrote for WaPo (one of the few worthwhile pieces that POS publication has put out in recent memory), Yang addresses the many problems young men in the US face today– an unpopular topic, since the left likes to pretend that men only cause problems for others rather than facing any themselves.

In his op-ed, Yang cites statistics showing that male enrollment in university is down; the number of boys being raised by single mothers is skyrocketing; male suicides and “deaths of despair” are reaching “unprecedented” levels; and more young men today live with their parents than romantic partners. If any of this sounds even remotely okay to you, you’re delusional, and I’m perfectly comfortable with that generalization.

Yang goes on to say,

But male achievement– alongside that of women– is a condition for a healthy society. And male failure begets male failure, to society’s detriment. Our media, institutions and public leadership have failed to address this crisis, framing boys and men as the problem themselves rather than as people requiring help.

Most importantly, he offers solutions– not all of which are necessarily good, but many of them are workable and, at worst, a decent starting point, if only because they start at all. That’s more than just about any other politician (not that Yang is a politician in the conventional sense) can say.

The establishment– Republican and Democrat alike– have done nothing but disappoint in recent years, with exceptions so sparse we could count them on one hand. For proof, just look at the fact that Donald Trump was elected– a man whose successes largely happened in spite of, rather than because of, the GOP, who only jumped to support him when it became clear he was their only path to power. Americans, like you and me, are sick of entrenched politicians who have no solutions to offer to problems other than ensuring their own reelection. For this reason, Andrew Yang’s voice is a welcome relief. He may not have all the answers, but he’s looking for them, and that alone makes him more valuable than 99% of the people on Capitol Hill.

I also think this picture of him on a t-shirt would be roughly as valuable as $30. I’d pay up to $40 for one.
