Another 3.8 Million Americans File For Unemployment Benefits, U.S. Tally Topping 30 Million During Pandemic

Bloomberg reported this week that 3.8 million more Americans filed for unemployment last week. This makes a total of 30 million Americans who have filed for unemployment benefits since the coronavirus crisis started, according to Bloomberg News.

The Bloomberg report states:

“The number of claims, assuming each person is counted as unemployed, could imply a jobless rate of around 22%, which would be the highest since the Great Depression in the 1930s. That’s also far above the peak of 10% reached in 2009 in the wake of the last recession.

Florida — whose governor plans to start reopening the state on Monday — had the most claims last week, with an estimated 432,500 on an unadjusted basis. That was followed by California at 328,000 and Georgia at 264,800. Most states reported declines.”

At what point will the staunchest Democrat supporter take a look around and say, “It is time to get back to work”? The same people who are saying that Trump didn’t shut the economy down quickly enough are the same ones who will blame President Trump for these unemployment numbers.

States are starting to open back up, but will it be quick enough to overcome the depression we have been put in?

States like North Carolina, who have had low unemployment numbers, are still experiencing some of the harshest lockdown measures. The News and Observer, a local paper out of Raliegh, NC, reported a story about a small business owner who did not qualify for unemployment and hasn’t received any funding from the PPP and was arrested for opening up his shop.

The man said that he felt he had no other option. He had to attempt to save his business so he can continue to feed his family and keep his home.

Let that sink in.

The man was arrested for trying to keep his legal business alive in a state that is not overrun by the virus. According to the Federal government’s models, North Carolina reached its peak last week. The governor of North Carolina has avoided providing an explanation as to why the state has these lockdown measures still in place.

States that are run by Democrat governors have the harshest lockdown measures in place. Their local economies are failing, and they want the rest of the country to bail them out.

I say no bailouts for these states, especially the ones that were struggling before the lockdowns.

It is time to give Americans their freedom back and open up these states. The tyranny has gone on long enough.
