The 81-year-old president will at least once face former president Donald Trump, according to a statement from the Biden campaign’s Adrienne Elrod on MSNBC’s Morning Joe.
In April, following months of conjecture, Biden declared on the Howard Stern Show that he would engage in a debate with the outgoing president. “I am here.” When asked if he would debate, he responded, “I am glad to debate him.”
At that same moment, Trump asked Biden to fulfill his promise and suggested broadcasting the event live on television from the Manhattan courthouse that Friday evening.
Special Counsel Robert Hur characterized Biden as “an old guy with a bad memory,” and he declined to accept Trump’s invitation.
Instantly, there was conjecture that Biden’s words were not sincere.
“Obviously, he is not telling the truth,” Emily Compagno, co-host of Outnumbered, stated. “I did not think it had the slightest hint of genuine intent. Just everything that comes out of his lips is what [Biden] says. He concurs with everyone who speaks in front of him.”
- A recent Harvard/Harris study revealed that around one-third of Democrats question Biden’s mental health.
- According to a different survey, 82% of Americans worry about their physical and mental well-being.
- According to Quinnipiac, just around one-third of people believe Biden is mentally or physically capable of serving a second term.
- Elrod said on Wednesday that “President Biden has made it very clear that he will be debating Donald Trump.”
Citing the need to prevent early voting, the Trump team in turn urged that the Commission on Presidential Debates to schedule events frequently and early.
The commission has already disclosed possible times, locations, and specifications for the face-off.
Co-campaign managers of Trump, Susie Wiles and Chris LaCivita, wrote to the commission, saying, “We are in favor of these debates commencing much sooner, even though the Commission on Presidential Debates has already planned three presidential debates and a vice presidential debate to occur later this year.”
According to a recent Fox News survey, over three-fourths of Americans think it demonstrates “weakness” for Biden to boycott the presidential debates.
