Jo-Ann Hardesty, Portland City Commissioner, advocates defunding the Portland Police Bureau.
Recently, she voted in favor of a failed proposal to cut another $18 million from the PPB even after its budget has already been deflated, according to Town Hall.
Despite her stance on Police affairs, she called the PPB after getting into an argument with a Lyft driver, according to The Oregonian.
9-1-1 released the phone call that was made to the emergency operator.
Hardesty said she called 9-1-1 because the driver said he was going to call the police. The emergency operator explained to Hardesty that technically the driver was correct as the vehicle is his property and that Hardesty had entered into a civil agreement when she called for the Lyft.
The operator said, “There’s no crimes involved.”
Hardesty still refused the leave the vehicle until the driver called for another Lyft driver.
Hardesty sent a complaint to Lyft, “totally inappropriate to expect a woman to get out of a vehicle in the dead of night.”
Richmond Frost, the Lyft driver said, “She was not a pleasant person.”
“That has nothing to do with her political position as a Portland council person. I’m out here doing my job. She was very disrespectful to me, made me uncomfortable.”
“I don’t feel like I have to sit in a car for anyone to have to argue unrelentingly and be rude and abusive, telling me what I have to do in my own vehicle.”
Today City Council did not vote in support of my amendment to reallocate $18 million from PPB to invest in our communities. My full statement below (Thread) can also be found here: https://t.co/iulR2KwWc6

From Town Hall:
Hardesty called for a Lyft driver after her visit with Washington’s Ilani Casino Resort. Allegedly there was tension from the start because of a pick-up location mix-up.
After Hardesty entered the vehicle there was an argument with the Lyft driver over he not wanting to have the windows down. Having the windows down serves as an extra precautionary measure for the coronavirus pandemic.
Hardesty then refused to exit the vehicle after the driver canceled and tried to drop her off at a gas station.
