FBI Insiders Now Pushing An Old Trump Conspiracy

In 2018, Trump fired Andrew McCabe as the deputy director of the FBI. In a podcast, McCabe said that Trump was a “de facto Russian agent.”

Sir Richard Dearlove, a former head of the British intelligence service MI6 and co-host of the podcast “One Decision,” asked McCabe if he thought Trump was working for Russia. McCabe said, “I do, I do.”

In 2018, Attorney General Jeff Sessions fired McCabe based on a suggestion from the Office of Professional Responsibility (OPR). This was because McCabe made “an unauthorized disclosure to the news media” and gave “lackluster” evidence in the FBI probe of the Clinton Foundation.

In the same way that people in the intelligence field think of that term, McCabe said, “I don’t know that I would call it an active, recruited, aware asset. But I do believe that Donald Trump has given us many reasons to doubt his approach to the Russia issue in the United States. I also believe that the way he talks to Vladimir Putin, whether it’s through phone calls, face-to-face meetings, or the things he says about Putin in public, all raise important questions.”

In other words, he thinks we can call Trump a “Russian asset” even though he wasn’t one because he “gave us many reasons” to doubt his policy toward Russia, and since they don’t agree with him on policy, so they call him a rebel.

The Guardian:

“McCabe was a leader in the FBI and even served as acting director for a short time while probes into Russian meddling in the 2016 election and possible ties between Trump and Russia were going on. In March 2018, Trump fired McCabe just two days before he was supposed to retire. Criminal charges were being considered against McCabe at the time for supposedly lying about a leak to the media. There was no longer a review in 2020. McCabe settled his case with the Justice Department in October 2021. His autobiography, “The Threat,” became a bestseller. Now he works as a professor and pundit.”

“In an interview with One Decision, McCabe said, “You have to have some very serious questions about why Donald Trump is so in love with Vladimir Putin in such a way that no other president, Republican or Democrat, ever has.”
