On Saturday, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R), announced he would not support any school board candidate in the state who supports critical race theory.

DeSantis appeared on Fox News with Dan Bongino and vowed to bring his “political apparatus” down on any GOP school board member who, not only supports critical race theory, but also any mandating of masks for school aged kids.

DeSantis told Bongino, “Next week, I have my Commissioner of Education going to the Board of Education banning it, banning any departure from accurate history and following our standards. This is something we’ve got to stay on the forefront of.”

All Politics Is Local

In May, Idaho Governor Brad Little became the first GOP Governor to sign into law legislation that restricts educators from teaching critical race theory.

The law prohibits teaching “individuals, by virtue of sex, race, ethnicity, religion, color, or national origin, are inherently responsible for actions committed in the past by other members of the same sex, race, ethnicity, religion, color, or national origin.”

At least a dozen other states are considering, or have introduced laws that would ban the teaching of the highly controversial critical race theory, and some say racist version of American history.

Ryan Girdusky is a political consultant who recently started a PAC called The 1776 Project PAC.

The PAC is designed to support local school board candidates not just in Florida, but nationwide who oppose critical race theory.

Girdusky recently stated in a report from Daily Wire:

“Currently, Florida has over a dozen school districts in the state that push the 1619 Project and critical race theory. I believe he is serious about his intentions. He is the most popular Republican in the state and the 1776 Project PAC would gladly campaign on behalf of school board candidates who oppose critical race theory and have DeSantis’ endorsement.”

Critical Race Theory Could Play A Part In 2022 Elections

While the old saying is true, that all politics is local, critical race theory is an issue that could very well come up in the 2022 midterm elections.

Many of the states that are in the process of introducing legislation to get rid of CRT, or have already banned the teaching of CRT are red states. And, that could be a galvanizing issue for many parents who are concerned about what their children are learning in the classroom.

In March, Gov. DeSantis signed a $106 million initiative to overhaul the statewide civics curriculum.

Critical race theory is specifically excluded from the curriculum. Part of the 2022 GOP strategy could be to tie CRT to Democrats as well.

Parents Beginning To Push Back

As taxpayers, parents are the ones footing the bill for their children’s education. And many of them all over the nation from public school parents all the way to exclusive private school parents.

Many more parents would like to speak out about their opposition to CRT being taught in their child’s school.

However, in many places, like so many other times when the woke mob is confronted, there are repercussions to those who speak out.

For example in Virginia, Jessica Mendez’s two children attend Loudon County Virginia public schools where the subject of CRT is a hotly contested issue.

Mendez voiced her opposition to CRT, now she has been ostracized by friends and family. She also has had information posted about where her husband works, where another son goes to high school, and where she lives.

DeSantis reiterated to Dan Bongino on Saturday during his interview that local elections do matter.

“As you said, these local elections matter. We are going to get the Florida political apparatus involved so we can make sure there’s not a single school board member, Republican, who ever indulges critical race theory.”
