Trump’s DOJ Just Sued New Jersey for Giving Illegal Aliens Cheaper College Than Your Kids

The Department of Justice just dropped a lawsuit on the state of New Jersey, and honestly, this one should have every parent in America seeing red. Turns out New Jersey has been handing out in-state tuition rates, scholarships, and financial aid packages to people who are in the country illegally — while American citizens from neighboring states get stuck paying full freight.

So if you’re a legal, tax-paying citizen from Pennsylvania who wants to attend Rutgers, you get to pay out-of-state tuition. But if you snuck across the border and settled in Newark? Welcome aboard — here’s your discount! What a country.

Associate Attorney General Stanley Woodward put it perfectly: “Imagine being denied the opportunity of education in your own country.” That’s not a hypothetical, folks. That’s literally what’s been happening in New Jersey. American kids — the ones whose parents have been paying into the tax system their entire lives — are being told they’re less deserving of educational benefits than people who broke federal law just by being here.

And we’re not talking about some tiny community college loophole. This is state law. New Jersey legislators sat down, drafted legislation, voted on it, and said, “Yeah, let’s give taxpayer-funded tuition breaks to illegal aliens.” They did this on purpose. They’re proud of it.

Assistant Attorney General Brett Shumate laid it out in terms even a New Jersey Democrat could understand: “This is a simple matter of federal law: in New Jersey and nationwide, colleges cannot provide benefits to illegal aliens that they do not provide to U.S. citizens.” Simple. Clear. Apparently too complicated for Trenton.

Here’s how this scam works. Out-of-state tuition at a New Jersey public university can run you roughly double or even triple the in-state rate. So a kid from Ohio whose dad served in the military, whose mom works two jobs, whose family has paid federal and state taxes for thirty years — that kid gets the big bill. Meanwhile, someone who crossed the border illegally, has no Social Security number, and has never filed a tax return gets the bargain rate. Plus scholarships. Plus financial aid.

(And Democrats wonder why people are angry. Truly a mystery for the ages.)

This is what happens when a state government decides that virtue signaling matters more than serving its own citizens. New Jersey didn’t accidentally stumble into this policy. They built it. They funded it. They defended it. And now Trump’s DOJ is making them answer for it in federal court.

The beautiful part? This isn’t just about New Jersey. Shumate specifically said “in New Jersey and nationwide.” That’s a warning shot to every blue state running the same racket — California, Illinois, New York, all of you. The DOJ is coming, and your little tuition-for-illegals schemes are on the chopping block.

We’ve been saying it for years: the modern Democrat Party cares more about illegal aliens than it does about American citizens. They’ll call that “xenophobic” or “nativist” or whatever buzzword is trending on MSNBC this week. But when you literally write laws that give better deals to people who broke into the country than to people who were born here and pay taxes — what else are we supposed to call it?

It’s not complicated. You shouldn’t get a better deal on college tuition than an American citizen because you violated immigration law. That’s not a controversial opinion. That’s common sense. But common sense and the New Jersey state legislature haven’t been on speaking terms for a very long time.

Trump’s DOJ is doing what DOJs are supposed to do — enforcing federal law against states that think they’re above it. New Jersey made a bet that nobody in Washington would ever hold them accountable for prioritizing illegal aliens over citizens.

Bad bet, Jersey. The adults are back in charge.
