Florida Governor Ron Desantis was on fire today regarding reports that Florida’s data was manipulated in an effort to push forward with reopening. The charge came from an employee of the Florida Department of Health who claims she was fired after refusing to manipulate data.
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) defended his administration’s response to the coronavirus pandemic Wednesday and disputed allegations by a former state employee who claims she was fired after refusing to manipulate COVID-19 data.
Rebekah Jones, a data expert at the Florida Department of Health, wrote last week in an email that she was being removed from oversight of the state’s COVID-19 dashboard and warned “I would not expect the new team to continue the same level of accessibility and transparency that I made central to the process during the first two months.”
DeSantis spoke out today about this woman’s unreliability.
“She’s not a data scientist.
She’s somebody that’s got a degree in journalism, communication & geography.”@RonDeSantisFL says a fired health official was “putting data on the portal which the scientists didn’t believe was valid.” pic.twitter.com/udxA192j60

So there you have it.
Ms. Jones…
- Is not a data scientist
- Has a degree in Journalism (worthless), Communications (worthless), and Geography (worthless)
- Was not involved in data collection
- Is not an epidemiologist
- Was insubordinate
- Is facing criminal charges for cyber stalking and cyber sexual harassment
DeSantis alleged that Ms. Jones was putting data into the portal that was not valid per the scientists. This fact alone should be enough to shut up DeSantis’s Democratic critics. They looooovvvve the scientists. They are the end-all, be-all. In this situation in particular, I think I’ll trust the scientists over the Communications major.
DeSantis went on to defend what an excellent job Florida has done despite so many dire predictions (and dare I say hopes of some).

Our data is available. Our data is transparent. In fact, Dr. Birx has talked multiple times about how Florida has the absolute best data. So, any insinuation otherwise is just typical, partisan narrative trying to be spun. And part of the reason is you got a lot of people in your profession who waxed poetically for weeks and weeks about Florida was going to be just like New York. Wait two weeks, Florida’s going to be next. Just like Italy, wait two weeks. Well hell, we’re eight weeks away from that, and it hasn’t happened.
DeSantis touted how Florida’s death rate from COVID-19 is lower than:
- D.C.
- Illinois
- Michigan
- Indiana
- Ohio
- Louisiana
- Mississippi
- Alabama
- Georgia
“I was number one landing spot for tens of thousands leaving the number one hot zone in the world to come to my state. So, we’ve succeeded, and I think that people just don’t want to recognize it, because it challenges their narrative, it challenges their assumption, so they got try to find a bogeyman.”
Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb, please watch and learn from Governor DeSantis. This man has a set of balls and, like President Trump, fights back and doesn’t take any crap from the media. He does not follow, he leads. He’s a breath of fresh air.
