President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris disregarded Republicans who opposed their American Rescue Plan by pointing to a crime report that showed decreased rates of rape, homicide, serious assault, and robbery.
Since he withdrew his campaign for a second term, the president has been less visible than ever, but this remark on Saturday shows that he is still interested.
In a White House statement, Biden stated, “This did not happen by mistake.” “Every Republican in Congress rejected our American Rescue Plan, which provided $15 billion to states and localities for violence prevention and public safety, keeping law enforcement officers on the beat, and collaborating with community leaders to deter and prevent crime.”
Republicans in the House and Senate did not support the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021, a plan that offered Americans $1.9 trillion in pandemic relief. In addition, Biden attributed the decline in crime to the gun laws that he signed into law in June 2022.
According to the statistic that Biden referenced, there has been a 17% decrease in killings, a 9.7% decrease in rapes, a 6.1% decrease in robberies, and a 5.4% decrease in severe assaults.
Since the early 1990s, crime has generally declined; however, there has been a recent uptick.
Reiterating that Harris came first, Biden declared, “Americans are safer now than when Vice President Harris and I began office.” “We have to keep going right now. For this reason, I will keep pushing Congress to approve funding for 100,000 more police officers, as well as programs that prevent and treat community violence and make sensible changes to gun safety, such as outlawing assault weapons.
For the first time since he withdrew from the race and backed Harris, the White House declared on Friday that Biden will accompany Harris on the campaign trail next week. He declined to run for reelection, therefore, he would act as a lame-duck president for the ensuing few months.
