Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg beat, robbed, and falsely accused a worker of murder at a bodega in New York City where former president Donald Trump was present.
Trump said in a news release ahead of his visit that he would be “visiting” the bodega where Jose Alba, a clerk there, had been “robbed, attacked, and, eventually, falsely charged with murder” following his self-defense.
According to a press release from Trump, “President Trump’s visit to one of NY City’s bodegas comes at a time when retail theft is increasing and the New York City police force is on course to decline to its lowest numbers since the 1990s by 2025.” “President Trump believes that the only way to fully restore peace and order to every borough in New York City is to overturn the Democratic Party’s soft-on-crime policies. Bodegas are a lifeline to underprivileged neighborhoods.”
There was a chant from the crowd as Trump was at the Sanaa Convenient Store: “Four more years! Another four years!
Trump met with Francisco Marte, a bodega owner and supporter of small businesses, as well as Maad Ahmed, the store’s co-owner.
On July 1, 2022, Alba, who is in his 60s, stepped up to defend himself when Austin Simon, 35, went behind the counter of the bodega after his girlfriend’s benefits card was denied, preventing her from making a purchase.
Following an argument that appears to show Simon grasping Alba by the neck of his shirt and shoving him, Alba fatally stabbed Simon in an effort to defend himself.
After making an arrest, Bragg accused Alba of second-degree murder. Bragg threw out the charges against Alba on July 19, 2022.
In September 2023, Alba filed a lawsuit against George Soros-funded Bragg, alleging “wrongful prosecution.”
Ahmed told the New York Post, “I have never voted since I have been working, but this time I will.” “Because he is a powerful guy, we need Donald Trump back in the White House.”
